let's start with the one that I have experienced in 2009, I was a K1 teacher at that time and just joined the school for less than three months. Here's the layout of the classroom.
That was a rule that I did not know about and it has a link to this story that I am going to tell now.
It was already 6pm, I was supposed to knock off at 5pm, but since I had the key to my classroom, I was going to continue working on my learning centre. All the teachers and the cleaner have left the school. The principal was at her office in another bay (Under the same HDB void deck, but have to walk a bit to reach my bay.)
I have switched off the air-con when the students left at 5pm, thinking that I could finish my task quickly, however, I still took slightly more than 1 hour. Now, thinking back, it was quite strange for the room to remain cold after the air-con was switched off for 1 hour. When I was done, I went on to check whether the air-con in Music room was switch off, the taps in the children's washroom were turned off and the air con in the TV room was turned off. They were off, so I happily left the bay through the main door near my classroom (K1 classroom). The next morning, the principal came into my classroom when I was about to start lesson. She asked me if I was the last person to leave my bay yesterday. My answer was yes. Then, she asked me why I did not switch off the television in the TV room, the volume was so loud that she could hear it from outside the school at about 6.30pm. She had to come in to turn it off.
Now, I was absolutely positive that the television was turned off when I left the school.
She even added that the TV was showing some old shows from Art central.
When the principal turned it off, the screen came on again, so she had to unplugged the television before leaving quickly.
Suddenly, I felt so lucky that I left in time.
Oh, by the way, the rule that they forgot to tell me was: Leave the school before 6pm, 6pm is the 'change-shift' hour.
